Home page slideshow module is taking 13 seconds to load

THe slide show is taking a long time to load. THis also occurs with your template. Please advise a way to speed it up.

The problem is that the slide show (the first module on the page, the one that fills the screen with large 1920x900px images) disappears off the screen. The images appear only after I hit refresh.
