Styles Not Working

Hi - I bought and am trying out your News MashUp module. When I set paddings or borders on the style tab they are not being applied. I want the display to have nice neat rows with whitespace between each column. Why are the styles I apply under the styles tab not showing up. Also is it possible to add a read more button under the title and is it possible to turn off the overlay animation on the image. My client wants a solution very similar to this but they do not like the overlay feature on the image and want to have a read more button. Thanks for your help!
